Multi-Day Sea Kayaking Primer by Candlebox Kayaking

Saturday, June 30, 2018 - 9:00am to Monday, July 2, 2018 - 4:00pm

This training is specifically (but not exclusively) designed for paddlers looking to work in the growing sea kayak guiding industry on Nova Scotias South Shore. All paddlers looking to earn their PC SK L2 skills certification welcome. That being said, with an emphasis on rough water confidence, rescues, navigation, and leadership, the training meets and exceeds all Nova Scotia South Shore (St. Margarets Bay to Barrington) outfitters day guide requirements with the exclusion of Wilderness First Aid. Includes VHF restricted operators certificate. Paddle Canada Level 2 skills certification available.

The first weekend will focus heavily on navigation (chart and compass proficiency), tides and currents, personal stroke and rescue refinement (including rolling), weather interpretation, and fun and safety in the surf zone.

The second weekend will focus on paddling and managing currents, rocks, and the planning and execution of a successful expedition, including at least one (and possibly two) overnight journey experiences.

Total cost is $750+tax for the 5 days of training. If scheduled dates don't work for you, we're happy to accommodate and training can be booked a day at a time for $150+tax/day.

We are the local experts in Southwestern Nova Scotia, specializing in areas such as Lobster Bay, the Tusket Islands (and their numerous tidal features) as well as kayak surfing, tidal play, and rock hopping.

Kayak (P&H Scorpios & Delphins, and Boreal Design Epsilons), paddles (Werner and Aquabound), PFD, sprayskirt, tow line, pump, deck compass, and helmet included. Drysuits (Kokatat and Level 6) also included in the tradition of "first come/first served." Food for the overnight component of the expedition included. We're proud to offer the highest quality, most value added, and most flexible (to your schedule) PC SK 2 training in Eastern Canada.
