Committees
CKNS relies upon the work of volunteers across the organization to complete its work. Several committees are organized to fulfill our vision and mission.
Portage Committee
Headed by the Director of Environment, the portage committee is responsible for the maintenance of 47 kilometers of canoe routes throughout the province. CKNS has an agreement with the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Climate Change to maintain these portages and campsites in select wilderness areas. Big Canoe Collective
The Big Canoe Collective of CKNS is responsible for helping to deliver big canoe programming to a diverse group of users throughout the province. A central objective of this collective is to provide “try paddle” opportunities to newcomer and equity deserving groups. Big canoes are a safe and fun way to connect with new paddlers. Additionally the Big Canoe collective seeks to increase the number of qualified Big Canoe Leaders through offering Paddle Canada courses with a focus on equity deserving groups.
