CANOE THE CANAL: CKNS 50TH ANNIVERSARY
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of CKNS is running a multi-day festival paddling across Nova Scotia on the Shubenacadie Canal System! There will be 5 legs with clinics, cultural events, a paddle and a social event each month May – Sep 2026. Open to all paddlers and paddle craft!
Want to participate but don’t have access to canoe/kayak/paddleboard? Consider paddling in one of our big canoes! No experience necessary!
Registration fee: $15. Children under 12 free. Includes BBQ!

Oct 4: Canoe the Canal
Wickwire Station Park to Shubenacadie River Park
Our paddle will begin at Wickwire Station Park. We will paddle the Shubenacadie downstream approximately 16 km to Shubenacadie River Park. There Total paddling time ~2 hours. Wickwire has two accessible outhouses, a look-off with views of the river, picnic areas and a floating dock with an EZ Launch system to launch canoes and kayaks. The EZ Launch system is great for people with disabilities, children, seniors or anyone else who needs a little extra help launching or recovering their canoe or kayak. Depending on the tidal cycle we will hit tidal waters somewhere between Wickwire Station Park and Shubie Park. There is a floating dock in Shubenacadie.
