CKNS – Maps R Us

You don’t want to be up a creek without a paddle, and you don’t want to be there without a map either. CKNS has been creating maps for Nova Scotia’s paddling community for years. Many have been funded either partially or in full by the provincial government for which we are grateful. And for the past two years we have had the support of the Nova Scotia Community College Centre of Geographic Sciences (COGS). Students in the COGS cartography programme have been making maps for CKNS as their end-of-term projects. This has the potential to provide a lot of great maps over time and by the end of this year we expect to have five new maps available.

Most of our maps are now on the CKNS website at https://ckns.ca/resources/learn/document-library/pdf-maps/. Although some are quite old all are valuable tools for planning and paddling. They are PDFs that can be downloaded at full resolution and printed. Eventually we are hoping to add a service where hardcopies of the maps can be order through our website.

If you want the very latest map information you can check out our members-only Backcountry Canoe/Kayak Paddle Routes, a Google map created and maintained by CKNS member Ryan O’Neill. So if you haven’t already, please join CKNS and get access to this great resource!

Much of the information in the Backcountry Canoe/Kayak Paddle Routes map comes from paddlers like you. If you have information on access, portages and campsites on your favourite routes please let us know at admin@ckns.ca.
