Fred Lynch Memorial Canoe Race
Location: Dartmouth Lakes
The annual celebration of CKNS founding paddler, Freddie Lynch. He was a well known coach at Banook Canoe Club in the 1960s and always a supporter of paddling in Dartmouth. This 16 km. event has become the unofficial "Championship of the Dartmouth Lakes".
The Fred Lynch Memorial canoe event began in 1985 as a way to recognize the tremendous effort ‘Freddie' put into teaching paddling in Dartmouth. Starting on Lake Banook, the paddlers go up to Lake MacMac and paddle/portage through Shubie Park, then all the way to the top of Lake Charles, before returning to the Finish Line on Lake Banook. Open to canoes, kayaks and paddle boards. Trophies, food, draw prizes and fun are all part of the celebration on Lions’ Beach afterwards.
Start: Lions’ Beach, Lake Banook. 10 Nowlan Street, Dartmouth
Route: Lake Banook, Lake MicMac, 400 m. portage through Shubie park, Lake Charles and back. Total 16 km.
