Fred Lynch Memorial Canoe Race
Fred Lynch Memorial Canoe Race
The Fred Lynch Memorial canoe event began in 1985 as a way to recognize his tremendous effort put into teaching paddling in Dartmouth. ‘Freddie' was co-founder of CKNS, a well-known coach at Banook Canoe Club in the 1960s and always a supporter of paddling in Dartmouth. This 16 km event has become the unofficial "Championship of the Dartmouth Lakes".
Starting location: Lions’ Beach, Lake Banook. 10 Nowlan Street, Dartmouth
Route: Starting on Lake Banook, the paddlers go up to Lake MacMac and paddle/portage (400m) through Shubie Park, then all the way to the top of Lake Charles, before returning to the Finish Line on Lake Banook. Total 16km.
This event is open to canoes, kayaks and paddle boards. Trophies, food, draw prizes and fun are all part of the celebration on Lions’ Beach afterwards.
