The CKNS Portage Committee has held well over 50 work parties this year, including large multi-day outings at the Rocky Lake Ranger Camp in the Medway Lakes Wilderness Area. Restoration of the building is complete! Other recent multi-day work parties included rehabilitation of the Long Lake (Moser River) – Hunting Lake (Liscomb River) water trail in the Boggy Lake Wilderness Area and the Alder Ground Wilderness Area. Other work parties included upkeep of a portion of the Skull Lake Loop in the Ship Harbour Long Lake Wilderness Area and of the main loop in the Blue Mountain – Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness Area… The committee has fulfilled the terms of the Thunderbox Project. We have placed the ten thunderboxes at selected campsites, as per instructions from NS ECC, which financed the lumber and the hardware for the structures. Three extra thunderboxes were placed at important campsites along Tangier Grand Lake, the largest lake in Nova Scotia without road access, in its namesake wilderness area.
