The goal of these sessions is to provide people with the capacity to get others on the water, especially youth, in short order. Sessions are back to back days and held in the same location. Gear can be stored on site, access to washrooms, shower, changing, food storage and potential lodging available to participants.
Successful participants will be awarded certification of SUP Advanced Flatwater and SUP Touring 1 Skills. (enrollment does not guarantee awarding of certification - this is dependent upon paddler ability but success is the goal for all!).
Day one (basic and advanced skills) is 5 or 6 hours of theory and practical (don't worry it'll feel like less!)
Day two (touring 1 skills) is 6 to 8 hours long and includes a little more talk time and a longer paddle 'trip' - set up to have a shore lunch so we can practice landing and launching in different settings.
Things to keep in mind when you are packing for our time together:
- wear something that can get wet and dry fast - stay away from cotton
- water/sun screen/bug dope
- hat and sunglasses
- change of clothes with long sleeves
- rain gear
- snacks and lunch and MORE water!
- pen and paper if you dare
- a sense of humour and willingness to learn while having fun
- ability to get wet and still smile
Required paddling gear:
- board and paddle
- properly fitting pfd
*** if you need any of this please let me know as I have plenty available for rental
Extra required for day two:
- what you feel you would and should bring as a part of a properly stocked leader pack for a day long paddle with people you are leading in an appropriate bag (dry sack, garbage bag, etc.)
*** we'll be discussing what to bring and why on day two and I do have some gear and bags for those who don't, but try your best to collect items on your own
