Melopseketch Lakes and Liscomb River - preliminary
NS Environment and Climate Change and CKNS members have gone out and marked most of the portage trails now, and with only a few small edits, Whale Cove map will be completed and no longer considered preliminary. Melopseketch Lakes and Liscomb River still needs a few field trips at my end to collect the last of the data. I'm also trying to get in touch with East Coast Outfitters about running a print of the Whale Cove Loop map; I'm hoping to get that moving along in the winter of 2021.
This past year also saw the us partnering with Old Creel Canoe & Kayak shop in Waverley to run a print of the Waverley Lakes map. As far as I have heard this has been successful, and Mike has already had to re-order a second run of prints. According to social media, there seems to be a great increase in canoe traffic to that area.
NS Environment and Climate Change has been working with the portage committee to upgrade, restore, and mark portages in several different wilderness areas. Dusan can speak to this. This is an important part of the entire Water Trails project. Another one of my winter 2021 projects is to update the original maps with the new portages.
Thanks, and I look forward to continuing my work with you all in the new year.
